Our Dojo in the Oberursel Newspaper

Today the "Taunus Zeitung" newspaper published a 2/3 page on our dojo under the headline "Fighting without hurting". A well written article with lots of pictures - a great promotion for our work.

Journalist Anja Petter visited our beginners' course together with photographer Heiko Rhode. She was an attentive listener, asked elaborate questions and turned those into a diligently written article. Afterwards Klaus Messlinger and Jörn Fritsch showed some advanced techniques for the photographer.

Head of Dojo Passes Test For 3rd Dan

Today, Klaus Messlinger successfully passed the test for 3rd Dan Aikikai Tokyo. The head of Aikido Dojo Oberursel had prepared over a year for this grading.

The grading took place in Stockholm, in front of a panel consisting of four notable members of the international Aikikai federation: Urban Aldenklimt Shihan (7th Dan), Jan Nevelius Shihan (6th Dan), Mouliko Halén (7th Dan) and Jorma Lyly (6th Dan).

The hour-long test required not only a profound knowledge of the several hundred Aikido techniques and forms, but also personal presence and adequate response to various attackers in a confined space. Standing and kneeling techniques, attacks from the front and back, defense against grabs and punches were just as much part of the test, as free defense against one and more attackers and disarming techniques against knife and sword.

The test marked the end of an international aikido camp in Lillsved, Sweden. Results will be confirmed by the international Aikikai federation in Tokyo.

Aikido Oberursel in the Press

"A little twist, a shift of weight, and the attacker ends up on the floor" starts the article that the "Taunus Zeitung" newspaper published about Aikido Oberursel. Journalist Babette Marschner and photographer Heiko Rhode took their time to get a good look at the martial art. Interview and pictures were taken at last Sunday's class, the article appeared today both in print and online.

When the newspaper called to arrange the interview we never thought it would turn out to become such a large article: the print edition granted us half a page at a very prominent position in the local pages. Even though the article contains a number of errors (we are not the only aikido dojo in the Hochtaunus district) we very much like it and we hope it will appeal to many people.

Read the online edition for more details.
