Open Keiko with Klaus Meßlinger & Jürgen Lauth
(4 July 2026)
It is an exciting challenge in aikido to take an attack seriously while remaining calm. Klaus Meßlinger is particularly interested in how he can establish an alert connection with his opponent that is not perceived as resistance or manipulation, but still effectively ends the attack.
Klaus Meßlinger began his aikido journey 30 years ago, on 3 July 1996. He practised and continues to practise in dojos that follow the teachings of Yamaguchi Seigo shihan (1924–1996) and his students Endo Seishiro shihan (Saku) and Christian Tissier shihan (Paris). After gaining initial experience in Tendo-Ryu Aikido in Bayreuth, he joined Ulli Kubetzek's dojo in Frankfurt in 1999, before finally founding Aikido Oberursel at the end of 2013. Today, his most influential teachers are Jan Nevelius shihan and Jorma Lyly shihan (Stockholm).
Since its founding, the dojo has organised around 125 events with many different teachers. In addition to contributing to the development of aikido in Oberursel, this has led to many lasting friendships. This community and constant curiosity promote lifelong development, says Klaus: "Good traditions keep the flame alive, and this requires openness, curiosity and a willingness to take a critical look at oneself in order to develop one’s abilities."
Klaus holds a 4th Dan Aikikai Tokyo.
Jürgen Lauth teaches the second half of the keiko. It was Jürgen’s enthusiasm for his newly discovered martial art that prompted Klaus to attend his first Aikido class in 1996.
Jürgen holds a 3rd Dan Aikido and teaches at the Jiyu Shiso Ka Dojo in Gröbenzell, Bavaria.
