"Entering throw" using the contact to the neck
In irimi-nage, tori enters laterally behind uke and seeks contact with the neck. As a direct entry throw (irimi principle), tori maintains very close body contact with uke.
The technique is related to kotegaeshi, where the contact is with the wrist, and where the throw requires a significant distance to uke.
The throw is also related to sokumen-irimi-nage, but the throw is made with the other arm (back of the arm instead of the front). Therefore it is called a "reversed irimi-nage".
