TACHI-DORI is the general term for all techniques where UKE attacks with a sword and TORI disarms him or her with bare hands..

Generic term for all techniques where both partners are standing. One of the three levels on which Aikido is practised.

Turning exercise with partner: UKE grabs KATATE-DORI, TORI uses TENKAN to turn to the outside. UKE keeps the grip - both partners maintain connection.

Attacking unarmed tori with a knife

"Heaven-and-earth throw", where tori moves one hand up and the other one down in order to throw uke.

Tenkan is a passing movement, turning the body on one foot by 180 degrees.

Tori is the partner which successfully completes the technique ("defender").
