Preparation of the UKEMI seminar, part 1: KOTEGAESHI

UKEMI

  • MAE-UKEMI from kneeling and standing position
  • UKEMI element #1: MAE-UKEMI from standing position, taking back the front leg while leaving the weight in front
  • UKEMI element #2: MAE-UKEMI in SUWARI-WAZA from KOTEGAESHI grip, so that it is not any more possible to roll over the hand (leave legs outstretched!)

KOTEGAESHI

  • Technique KOTEGAESHI from the attack AI-HANMI KATATE-DORI:
    • TORI frees his hand by turning his hip and lowering his elbow (no pulling with the arm!)
    • Passing movement and attentive contact on UKE's wrist
    • UKE keeps attacking, so that TORI has to make a step back in order to (a) avoid UKE's free hand hitting him and (b) at the same time opening a space for the throw
    • Leading UKE into the forward roll (like in the SUWARI-WAZA exercise, the hand can no longer support the roll)

Breakfall Exercise

  • Partner exercise for free falling: grab the partner's wrist tightly, take the front foot back, tip the upper body over the wrist aiming for the space in front of the partner, keep your legs long, search for the ground with the free hand (do not jump!).
